Winter Appeal Bottling in aid of PADS and EDCH

If you remember just one thing about Persie Distillery please let it be that we are fervent advocates of pet rescue! That’s the reason why our Charity Dog Gins and Pusscat Vodka were created – specifically to raise money for Perthshire Abandoned Dogs Society and Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home.

But now, amid the cost-of-living crisis, they need our help more than ever. And we want to do our bit! So far, we’ve raised over £40,000 for animal welfare and we want to add to that this Christmas with a few hundred pounds more. So our team came up with the idea of a special bottling for our friends in both charities!

The gin we have created captures the spirit of the nation’s favourite pet! Think top notes of dog walks in the wood, followed by the gentle settling warmth of being curled up on the sofa with your pup. It is a classic juniper-forward gin embodying the warm glow of being an animal rescue supporter with notes of warming spices.

This limited edition is available in 20cl bottles. And we have been asked by many PADS and EDCH fans if we can swap out our back label and put a picture of their adopted dog or cat on the bottle instead. And the answer is of course! Just follow the instructions below 🙂

PADS’ Scrufts Gin

The PADS newsletter tells us that demand during Covid added 3.5 million dogs to the UK canine population. Now, however, the perfect storm of people feeling the pinch – with rising food prices, vet fees and tax bills – has meant that the appetite for dog ownership has dampened. Horrifyingly, there has been an increase in ‘coordinated dumping’, meaning that while PADS’ kennels houses up to 30 animals in warmth and comfort, they also have a waiting list of people wishing to surrender their dogs, asking PADS to find new homes for them.

EDCH Love Without Limits Gin

This year, a staggering 45% of animals admitted to Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home have been lost or abandoned, without a place to call home. The charity estimates they need to raise £200,000 this winter to keep their kennels and cattery warm, and the animals fed and safe. As well as rehoming around 200 animals each year, the team also runs a pet-food bank providing over 56,000 meals each month for families who worry about feeding their cosies, and operates a community helpline giving advice to pet owners who are desperate and in need of support.
