PADS’ Scrufts Gin
The PADS newsletter tells us that demand during Covid added 3.5 million dogs to the UK canine population. Now, however, the perfect storm of people feeling the pinch – with rising food prices, vet fees and tax bills – has meant that the appetite for dog ownership has dampened. Horrifyingly, there has been an increase in ‘coordinated dumping’, meaning that while PADS’ kennels houses up to 30 animals in warmth and comfort, they also have a waiting list of people wishing to surrender their dogs, asking PADS to find new homes for them.

EDCH Love Without Limits Gin
This year, a staggering 45% of animals admitted to Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home have been lost or abandoned, without a place to call home. The charity estimates they need to raise £200,000 this winter to keep their kennels and cattery warm, and the animals fed and safe. As well as rehoming around 200 animals each year, the team also runs a pet-food bank providing over 56,000 meals each month for families who worry about feeding their cosies, and operates a community helpline giving advice to pet owners who are desperate and in need of support.
